Why this trip is tricky

The Alhambra has a strict timed entry for the Nazaries. If your bus is late and you miss your slot, you lose the Nazaries. No refund, no second chance that day. That is why most visitors choose an organized tour, where the operator absorbs the risk of traffic and timing.

Option 1: Organized tour (recommended)

  • Pickup: Around 7 AM from central Seville.
  • Included: Bus transport, Alhambra ticket with Nazaries slot, licensed guide, free time.
  • Schedule: Arrive Granada 9:30-10:00. Nazaries around 11 or 14. Free time 2 hours. Departure 18:00. Seville 21:00.
  • Cost: 95 to 130 EUR per person depending on season and group size.

Option 2: DIY by bus (for confident travelers)

  • Book the Nazaries 3 months in advance for an afternoon slot (13:00 to 14:30 is safest).
  • Book ALSA 7:00 AM bus Seville Plaza de Armas to Granada. Around 20 to 30 EUR.
  • Take a taxi from Granada bus station to the Alhambra (around 10 EUR).
  • Return: Catch the 17:30 or 19:00 bus back. Arrive Seville around 21:00 or 22:30.

What to skip on a day trip

A day trip is too short for the full Alhambra. Skip the Albayzin walking tour and most of Granada city. Focus on the Nazaries, the Alcazaba (15 minutes for the views), and a quick Generalife loop. Save the rest for a proper Granada visit.

Frequently asked questions

Around 2.5 hours by road (250 km via the A-92). Add time for pickups and traffic, most organized tours budget 3 hours each way.

Yes, but it is risky. You need a BlaBlaBus or ALSA early bus, a pre-booked Nazaries slot with enough buffer, and the discipline to catch the last bus back. One mistake (missed slot, delayed bus) and the day collapses.

ALSA usually runs a 7:00 AM direct service from Plaza de Armas. Book this if you are doing DIY. Arrive at Granada bus station around 9:30 and take a taxi to the Alhambra ticket office.

For most travelers, yes. Granada at sunset, dinner in the Albayzin, flamenco in Sacromonte, and an unrushed Alhambra morning is a much better experience than a whirlwind day trip.
