The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex in Granada, Spain, built by the Nasrid dynasty in the 13th and 14th centuries. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it includes the Nazaries Palaces, the Generalife gardens, the Alcazaba fortress and the Renaissance Palace of Charles V. It is one of the most visited monuments in Spain.
The Alhambra sits on the Sabika hill above Granada. From Plaza Nueva in the city center it is a 20 minute uphill walk, a 10 minute taxi (around 8 EUR), or a ride on the C3 or C4 minibus. From Granada airport, a taxi costs around 30 EUR.
Public parks range from $61 to $150 per person including food and drinks. Day passes at resort parks vary. Catamaran cruises and snorkel trips start from around $50 per person with lunch and open bar included.
The cliff jump is approximately 10 meters and you jump at your own risk. Life jackets are available for rent (DOP 50). There is also a safer kids area with shallower water. The zipline drops you into the lagoon from about 10 meters. You must sign a waiver for the zipline.
Bring the passport or ID you used to book your ticket (mandatory, they check). Comfortable walking shoes for cobbled paths. Water, sunscreen and a hat in summer. A light jacket in winter. Bags over 40x40 cm must be left in lockers.
Nearby attractions include the Generalife gardens (included), the Albayzin Moorish quarter with the Mirador de San Nicolas, Sacromonte flamenco caves, the Granada Cathedral and Royal Chapel, and the historic Alcaiceria bazaar. Day trips to Sierra Nevada, Cordoba or Seville are also popular.
The Alhambra is open daily from 8:30 to 18:00 (winter) or 8:30 to 20:00 (summer). The best time to visit is early morning (8:30 Nazaries slot) or late afternoon. Book your ticket at least 2 to 3 months ahead in high season.
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer the best weather. The Alhambra is open year-round. Early morning and late afternoon have the best light and fewest visitors.
